"The Best of Both Worlds

You can spend your day basking on a glorious beach, listening to the waves of the warm Pacific waters lapping at the shore, yet take in the breezes of a high mountain retreat by night. The best of both worlds. That was our experience recently while staying at Finca Colibri Panama.

Hiking trails were competition for our beach time. Nearby La Laguna de San Carlos provided an especially beautiful spot for an easy walk that, despite being so accessible, instantly felt like we had been transported into a tropical rainforest. More challenging hikes with appropriate vistas as rewards were numerous but since we were there at the tail end of rainy season, we chose to leave them for another visit.

Finca Colibri Panama is one of the most inviting, contemporary gems we have ever stayed in. We particularly enjoyed the sitting area by the floor-to-ceiling windows. It was our favorite spot for relaxing after the day’s adventures. In the mornings, the windows provided a breathtaking view of the forest, looking out over the treetops making their way down to the water’s edge of the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Since we are early risers, we were treated to sunrises over the ocean, which were especially magical. We joked about wanting it to rain so that we would have an excuse to stay in; relaxing with a book, drinking great coffee freshly brewed in the provided coffeemaker, and enjoying treats and sipping wine purchased in the local gourmet market.

Our hostess pointed us to a Peruvian restaurant in nearby Coronado which wound up being one of our favorite dinners in Panama. Speaking of our hostess, Isabel was warm, inviting, and a wealth of information about the area. She even suggested a convenient hotel near the airport in Panama City to allow us to catch an early flight for our next destination, which was Boquete. Thanks Isabel!

At night, we drifted off to sleep listening to the tumbling waters from the nearby creek, and woke to the sounds of birdsong.

We would say that Finca Colibri Panama is truly a ‘home away from home’, but sadly, home doesn’t have this great view, beaches, and hiking trails. I guess that is why we have to come back."

"I arrived on Wednesday for the mini retreat at Finca Colibri Panama and from the moment I entered through the beautiful floral gates I immediately felt the the warmth and comfort surrounding me. Each room is tastefully decorated with contemporary finishes and open to amazing views of mountains and the endless ocean. I enjoyed fabulous wine with dinner and great conversations. The accommodations were very comfortably and luxurious. The next morning started with mimosas, coffee and a lovely sunny breakfast out on the extended patio overlooking the mountains and the creeks with sounds provided my many different birds. The infinity pool over the hillside was a refreshing break. Then it was time to go. Finca Colibri Panama is a special place in a very special setting and I hope to return soon.
